Perth-based Woodside Petroleum’s Swell-1A exploration well in Western Australia’s offshore Carnarvon basin has not been a commercial success, despite hitting gas.

Woodside revealed in its fourth quarter report that the exploration well, in WA-483-P, had intersected interpreted gas sands within a gross 450-metre interval.

However, wireline log results indicated poor reservoir quality and low gas mobility.

The well was drilled using the semi-submersible Atwood Osprey and had been targeting a Triassic fault block near Woodside’s Enfield and Vincent fields.
