The contest is expected to lead to the biggest platform-based engineering, procurement and construction contract this year in Malaysia, although sources said that it is too close to call which way the final award will go.
The two leading contenders have been running against a third bid from Italy’s Saipem in a three-legged front-end engineering and design contest on the phased development of the NC3 and NC8 discoveries, timed to support the start-up of a ninth liquefied natural gas train already entering into construction at Petronas’ Bintulu LNG complex by 2015.
