Italian operator Eni has made an oil discovery with the first exploration well of an onshore drilling campaign to test deep geological structures in the Faghur basin of Egypt’s Western Desert.

The SWM A-2X probe, drilled to a total depth of 5090 metres at the A-2X prospect in the South West Meleiha licence, yielded a flow rate of 2300 barrels per day of 32 degrees API light oil and 400,000 cubic feet of associated gas per day after being brought into production.
