US independent Apache has made a multi million-barrel light oil discovery at the Garten prospect south of the Beryl Alpha platform off the UK.
The discovery well was targeting a downthrown structural closure and hit more than 700 feet of net oil pay in stacked, "high-quality" Jurassic-aged sandstone reservoirs.
Estimated recoverable resources of more than 10 million barrels of light oil are "at the high end of pre-drill estimates" Apache said.
