New Zealand’s Labour-led government has been in office for less than six months, and is a partnership between three political parties, including the Greens Party, writes Russell Searancke.
Its decision to end the licensing of new offshore exploration permits was unexpected, and was not a part of Labour’s election campaign last year.
Labour, and the new government, say they are committed to a carbon neutral economy by 2050, and 100% renewable electricity (predominantly hydro), in a normal hydrological year, by 2035.
