The Japanese company is understood to be planning to import volumes from its planned grassroots liquefied natural gas projects at Abadi, Indonesia and Ichthys off Australia into the Naoetsu terminal.
It will also handle LNG imports sourced by Shizuoka Gas Company. The imported LNG will augment the domestic gas supplies drawn from Minami-Nagaoka and other gas fields in Japan.
Construction of the two 180,000-kilolitre LNG storage tanks is 70% complete, while the landing bridge and connecting pipelines are 25% and 20% complete respectively.
