Saipem has the opportunity “to be part of a re-bidding process”, Saipem chief executive Umberto Vergine said in reference to reports that the Italian company had been disqualified.
Upstream has been told that Adma-Opco has asked for fresh price offers next week after rejecting Saipem’s bid, which had undercut the next lowest bidder by at least $300 million.
The reasons for the rejection are unknown, but sources said the unusually low quote may have been based on technical modifications not approved by the client.
