Mozambique has approved Anadarko Petroleum's development plan for its Golfinho-Atum gas project in Offshore Area 1, writes Iain Esau.

The development comprises subsea wells on the 31 trillion cubic foot deep-water field sending gas to two onshore liquefied natural gas trains at Afungi in Cabo Delgado province.

The trains will have nameplate capacity of 12.88 million tonnes per annum of LNG, although Anadarko said that the resources in Area 1 could underpin a total LNG capacity of 50 million tpa at Afungi.
