The son of the country’s long-time president, Obiang stands accused of plundering around $115 million from the country’s timber industry while agriculture minister.
However, no sooner had the trial opened than it was postponed until 19 June after his lawyer argued that Obiang did not have sufficient time to prepare a defence.
The 47-year-old owns a six-storey villa in Paris reputedly worth $100 million, with other assets including a $38 million private jet, properties in the US worth $30 million, the crystal-studded glove once owned by late music superstar Michael Jackson and a yacht, Ebony Shine, worth a cool $200 million.
