Tiensten, a highly educated and energetic technocrat in the DPE, has been tipped to replace department secretary Joseph Gabut after he retires. Tiensten stands as an independent candidate against four to five opponents in Pomio. In the meantime, the department's assistant director of exploration, Stanley Pono, will serve as acting DPE director.
PNG boss to play politics
PAUL TIENSTEN, director of the petroleum division of Papua New Guinea's Department of Petroleum and Energy, has taken a two-month leave of absence to contest a parliamentary seat in his constituency, Pomio district, in East New Britain.
