Petrobras currently produces about 45,000 barrels per day of oil from Sergipe-Alagoas, of which just 15,000 bpd comes from its offshore fields. Piranema contributes about 10,000 bpd of that amount. However, the development of new discoveries in the ultra-deep waters of Sergipe-Alagoas represents another dimension in terms of scale and potential.

A source with the state-controlled company told Upstream that, while reservoirs in this emerging province are comparable to the Campos basin in terms of their geology and geochemistry, the well flows are much greater.
