The company’s OxyCoal pro-cess is at the heart of the project. The system uses a large-volume air separation unit to remove nitrogen from the air so that the coal is fired in pure oxygen in the boiler, with the resulting flue gas — made up largely of carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapour — compressed to remove the water and capture the CO2 for onward transmission and storage.
