UK company Wood wants to get energy services down to a fine art, and the contractor quite literally did just that last week with perhaps the most eye-catching stand at the Offshore Europe 2019 conference and exhibition in Aberdeen.

Wood’s stand - themed “art of the possible” - featured more than a dozen artworks that explored the concept of how the world gets its energy, while also examining Wood’s history and rapidly changing role within the industry.

Wood chief executive Robin Watson said that since the last Offshore Europe in 2017 the group’s business has doubled in size, with increases in its exposure to new markets and sectors.

Watson said: “(The stand highlighted) the great work we do and some of the ingenious things we have made possible, in conjunction with our inspiring customers. It looks to the future and shares some of our thinking on what will come next.”

The exhibit featured paintings, digital artwork, sculpture and films. One piece that seemed to attract a good deal of attention was a digital portrait of Dave Stewart, chief executive of Wood’s asset solutions business across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. From a distance, the work, titled Portrait of a Leader, appeared to be a static painting.

But on closer on inspection, and by touching the interactive canvas, the image came to life, taking a few onlookers by surprise.
