BP lifts damaged blowout preventer

BP has lifted the damaged blowout preventer stack off the Macondo well in Mississippi Canyon Block 252 in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico and plans to have the entire stack pulled up from 5000 feet deep to the surface by Sunday afternoon.

Australian explorer Drillsearch Energy announced an increase to its proved plus probable (2P) reserves in its Cooper basin western flank oil fairway and gas & liquids projects.

BOEM to probe Mariner fire

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) today launched an investigation into yesterday's fire on a Mariner Energy-operated platform in the US Gulf of Mexico.

TransCanada pipe down for work

TransCanada has shut down its new Keystone oil pipeline to the US Midwest from Alberta for unscheduled maintenance, adding to an already-squeezed system for exporting Canadian crude.

Oil prices eased today as weak US services sector data revived concerns about slowing economic growth, while a weakened Hurricane Earl posed less of a threat to refineries near its path.

Salazar has doubts on Arctic drilling

US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said today he cannot predict whether Anglo-Dutch Shell, which has invested $3.5 billion in an offshore Arctic oil-development programme, will be allowed to drill the five wells it plans next year in Alaska's Chukchi and Beaufort Seas.

Encana clears Deep Panuke decks

Canadian producer Encana evacuated 82 crew from the jack-up Rowan Gorilla III, which is drilling the Deep Panuke prospect off Nova Scotia, ahead of Hurricane Earl, a company spokeswoman said today.
