Norwegian operator Statoil is blocking up acreage around the emerging Power Nap prospect in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico as it seemingly vies for control of the discovery with Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell.
Statoil has taken over operatorship of two additional blocks thought to comprise the Power Nap discovery, according to recently-updated federal leasing records.
The company confirmed it now owns a 100% stake in Mississippi Canyon blocks 986 and 987, as well as 942.
