Earlier this month TotalFinaElf warned that its net income could drop by as much as 40% for the quarter.
In the upstream sector, the company said operating income fell by 22% to 2 billion euros ($1.85 billion) in the quarter from 2.57 billion euros in the same period of 2001.
The company said it remained on target to meet 2002 production growth of 10%.
