The deep water is very much on PetroVietnam’s mind. Several tempting exploration plays lie along the country’s 3400-kilometre-long coastline.
The state-owned company recently outlined that its exploration strategy is centred on promoting the country’s deep-water areas, which have received little attention by the industry, let alone actual exploration wells.
Hydrocarbon systems are reckoned to be turbidite of miocene and pliocene age in the Phu Khanh, Nam Con Son and Tu Chinh-Vung May basins, carbonate of cenozoic age in the Phu Khanh and Tu Chinh-Vung May basins, and conventional in the Tu Chinh-Vung May basin.
