Aidan Heavey, Tullow's chief executive, said that Britain's gas supply situation over the last two winters had been very tight. "If there is a very cold snap this winter there is a good chance we will see electricity blackouts," he warned.
Heavey said the UK has only got 15 days of gas storage capacity compared to the European average of 55.
