Norwegian contractor Kvaerner grabbed the coveted award to build and install the topsides for Statoil’s Johan Castberg development, paving the way for a yard expansion to prepare for similar jobs in the future, writes Beate Schjolberg.
The Nkr3.8 billion ($482 million) contract was awarded amid “tough international competition,” operator Statoil said, with domestic player Aibel and Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries known to be among the contenders.
