Pickard told audience members at the Australian Gas Technology conference in Perth this morning that due to the high Australian dollar, and high labour, material and construction costs, it was the most expensive country in which to produce LNG.
However, she touted floating LNG (FLNG) technology as Australia’s solution to meeting the world’s energy needs while keeping prices down.
“Floating LNG provides the answer to making sure Australia stays a ‘lucky’ country, providing a new avenue to remain competitive because they are cheaper to build than onshore plants,” Pickard said.
