The Bee Eater-1 exploration well hit oil in three zones - 48 metres in the prime Turonian zone; plus oil in the deeper Albian and Cenomanian intervals.
Permeability in the Turonian was less than expected, and more analysis is under way.
The well was drilled 9.5 kilometres from African Petroleum's Narina-1 discovery and in 1067 metres of water by the semi-submersible rig Eirik Raude.
