The probe has been drilled by semi-submersible Noble Homer Ferrington in the Ishay licence straddling the maritime border with Cyprus where Noble Energy made its earlier 7 trillion-cubic-feet Aphrodite gas discovery.
AGR said the well had found “significant signs of hydrocarbons” with an approximately 15-metre thick natural gas-bearing layer in Lower Miocene sands identified by wireline logs and other tests.
“These preliminary results and their analysis clearly indicate the existence of natural gas in the well,” the company stated.
