The Norwegian contractor is currently in discussions with “reputable” yards for an engineering, procurement and construction contract for the rig after subsidiary Aker Oilfield Services (AOS) won the coveted $1.9 billion well intervention deal with Statoil, up against stiff competition from Helix Energy of the US and Italy’s Saipem.
While Aker Solutions remained tight-lipped on the potential value of the newbuild contract, Norwegian newswire TDN Finans reported that total capital expenditure on construction of the unit would be between Nkr4 billion and Nk5 billion ($697 million and $871 million) including Aker-sourced equipment such as the well control package, wireline kit and coiled tubing.
