The mainly onshore tracts covering a total area of 350,000 square kilometres “are located in different sedimentary basins that have a high potential in oil resources”, state hydrocarbons agency Alnaft stated.

The country’s fourth licensing round is offering tax breaks introduced last year to promote exploration in remote areas and exploitation of unconventional resources such as tight gas.

The blocks may contain both conventional and unconventional resources, Alnaft  chairman Sid Ali Betata was quoted as saying by news agency Bloomberg.
