The state-controlled oil giant lost five employees afterarmed militants stormed the In Amenas gas facility in mid January with around40 foreign and 10 Algerian workers killed also with 29 gunmen.

The lethal assault has put security at Algeria’s oil and gasfacilities under the spotlight with Statoil itself conducting an investigationinto what happened.

Local state oil company Sonatrach, which jointly operates InAmenas along with Statoil and UK supermajor BP, is in charge of security at allsuch facilities.
