The Woodlands, Texas-based Anadarko got involved in the dispute in its 2006 purchase of Kerr-McGee, which allegedly saddled its Tronox spin-off with billions in clean-up costs prior to the acquisition.
"This settlement agreement with the Litigation Trust and the US government eliminates the uncertainty this dispute has created, and the proceeds will fund the remediation and clean-up of the legacy environmental liabilities and tort claims," said Anadarko chief executive Al Walker.
