Co-owner Tap Oil said the Taunton-5 pilot and 5H horizontal well are designed to evaluate the potential deliverability of the Mardie Greensand oil reservoir.
"If additional resources can be confirmed in the Mardie Greensand this may enable the economic development of the Taunton field," said Tap.
The field was discovered in 1991 and straddles Blocks TL/2 and TP/7. Three appraisal wells were drilled, and Tap said 2C contingent resources are 9 million barrels.
