The 16/2-19 probe drilled by the rig Ocean Vanguard on the northern flank of the discovery to appraise the earlier Geitungen findstruck a gross 4.5-metre oil column in a sandstone reservoir believed to be part of the Statfjord formation, according to licence partner Det Norske Oljeselskap.
The partnership in Statoil-operated production licence 265 has now decided to drill a sidetrack about 1000 metres to the south-west of the current well location to delineate the extent of the Johan Sverdrup reservoir.
