The vertical probe, known as Myrtle Basin-1, is located about 17 kilometres south-west of the McArthur River mine and about five kilometres south-east of the McArthur River pipeline.
It is designed to evaluate shallow hydrocarbon accumulations in the Barney Creek shale and Coxco dolomite that are similar in depth to the Glyde-1 and Glyde-1-ST1 well locations where a gas discovery was made last year.
