The two are said to have been in talks about such a collaboration for a couple of months after Asian buyers met in late 2013 to discuss setting up a collective to secure better priced and more flexible LNG imports.
Asian customers account for some 70% of global LNG purchases yet historically they have mostly targeted volumes as sole and competing buyers.
