Athlon now plans to spend $700 million in 2014 on drilling, and an additional $25 million for leasing, infrastructure, and capital workovers.
The company said in January that it would spend $595 million on drilling and $20 million on leasing and infrastructure.
The spending increase follows Athlon's $873 million purchase of 23,500 acres in Martin, Upton, Andrews, and Glasscock counties in the Midland sub-basin.
