The well encountered the primary objective in the Kapuna F sands.
Oil shows were observed by surface monitoring equipment and realtime petrophysical measurements indicating the potential of an oil-bearing reservoir.
Casing was run and cemented to the depth of the primary objective, before drilling will continue through the reservoir section.
The well will be drilled to 5361 metres where joint venture partner New Zealand Oil & Gas (NZOG) said there would be enough data to determine if the reservoir is commercial.
