The current exploration period will now last until 23 September, during which time the joint venture partners will work closely alongside state-owned GNPC, which holds a 10% carried interest in the block.

Azonto said the recent Starfish-1 well penetrated an Albian-aged stratigraphic reservoir and possible evidence of residual oil in the sands.

The joint venture partners have also “identified further high potential opportunities within the block”.

All of the commitments for the current exploration period have been satisfied but more geophysical studies will be incorporated to enhance field definition.
