The Burford Group, which agreed to lend the plaintiffs $4 million to prove the company had failed to clean up the Amazonrainforest, has relinquished any claim to money recovered, according to a swornstatement by chief executive Christopher Bogart.
“My colleagues at Burford and I have been deeply concernedabout the mounting evidence of fraud and misconduct that appears to havepermeated the Lago Agrio Litigation,” Bogart said in the documents filed in NewYork federal courts, where Chevron is countersuing the plaintiffs onracketeering charges.
