The West Auriga, capable of working in up to 12,000 feet of water, has begun development drilling for the UK supermajor at the Thunder Horse field, the company said Tuesday.
Upstream previously reported that BP was behind the deal for seven-year contracts with the West Auriga and a second newbuild unit, the West Vela.
Upstream understands the West Vela is also headed to the US Gulf but timing is still uncertain.
