Chief executive Ryan Lance of ConocoPhillips, an 18% partner in BP-operated Tiber, mentioned the progress at an energy conference presentation on Thursday.
"We are appraising the Tiber discovery which was made pre-incident in the Gulf of Mexico," Lance said at the Barclay's Capital CEO Energy & Power Conference.
BP made the discovery at Tiber in 2009, when the discovery was labeled as "giant" and estimated to have 3 billion barrels of oil in place.
