Brazil has not sought to ban the use of hydraulic fracturing but has placed rules on the process with an eye to environmental concerns and the safety of water supplies, according to Brazil's National Petroleum Agency (ANP).
Under the proposed rules, operators must submit a detailed risk-analysis plan as well as environmental management scheme providing for the use, recycling and disposal of water and solid wastes.
