The San Ramon, California-based company voluntarily stopped production from Frade, its only operated asset in Brazil, earlier this year following a spill last November.

Regional prosecutors seeking recompense for the spill had gone to court to bar the company and driller Transocean from operating in the country until a federal police investigation was complete.

A three-member panel in Rio de Janeiro's Federal Regional Tribunal (TRF-2) unanimously voted on the decision on 27 November, according to a court spokesman, who confirmed the outcome.
