The US supermajor said on Wednesday it was awarded two blocks, S12-2 and S12-3, spanning more than 32,000 square kilometres in the Bight basin, located about 443 kilometres west of Port Lincoln off South Australia’s coast.
The blocks lie adjacent to the deep-water exploration permits 37, 38, 39 and 40, which are operated by UK supermajor BP. Norway’s Statoil signed a farm-in deal in May to acquire a 30% stake in the licences.
