The Beijing-headquartered explorer is drilling the Changning H3-6 well, which is to be drilledto a total vertical depth of 4448 metres with a later section of 1500 metresover the next 70 days.
The block is situated within a 4200-square kilometre designatedshale gas test development area known as the Weiyuan-Changning shale gas pilotzone.
CNPC said it plans to drill and fracture more than 50 shale gaswells on the block with the aim of producing 1 billion cubic metres of naturalgas next year.
