The Coast Guard and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) already share responsibility for overseeing mobile offshore drilling units (MODUs) but the agreement more clearly defines which agency will have lead responsibility for inspection and regulation.
For example, BSEE is to oversee aspects such as drilling, production and workovers while the Coast Guard is responsible for fire protection, maritime drills and navigational aspects.
