Australian company Octanex said detailed engineering studies are under way with a view to assessing the best development scenarios.
Cornea is a shallow-water field in Block WA-342-P in the Browse basin.
“The Cornea joint venture is committed to bringing Cornea closer to production, an aim which, in our view, is being enhanced by new developments in horizontal drilling,” said Octanex.
The owners will soon declare a “location” over the Cornea accumulation and will then seek a retention lease “to allow us to further appraise this potentially significant oil resource”, added Octanex.
