The Nkr6 billion ($982.6 million) Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM) was developed by Aker Solutions as part of a project to build a full-scale carbon capture facility linked to a gas-fired power plant at Mongstad that was finally scrapped last year due to high costs and technological challenges.
The abortive project is now the subject of an ongoing parliamentary hearing over the government’s handling of what it had flagged as Norway’s equivalent of a “moon landing” given the technological leap required, with former oil ministers including Ola Borten Moe due to be grilled on Thursday.
