Kurt Mix of Katy, Texas was found guilty on one count of obstruction of justice in a New Orleans trial on allegations that he deleted text messages related to spill response efforts despite multiple directions otherwise from BP.
He was the first of four current and former BP workers to stand trial for actions related to the spill, which killed 11 men and caused the worst offshore oil spill in US history.
