Upstream previously reported that Shell had planned to use the Discoverer for a 2014 reboot of a setback-filled drilling programme in 2012.
The Discoverer had been in Korea under its prior Shell contract since March for maintenance and upgrades at a day rate of $244,000, the rig contractor said in its latest fleet status report out Tuesday.
The Anglo-Dutch supermajor told regulators that the 1976-built drillship had undergone a raft of repairs and improvements ahead of plans to drill the company's Burger prospect in the Chukchi sea between July and November 2014.
