The new vessel, to be named White Marlin, will be a so-called Type 1 unit with capacity and capabilities similar to Dockwise’s existing high-specification heavy-lift vessel Blue Marlin, with delivery in the fourth quarter of 2014, the company said in a statement.
The order represents the conversion of a third contract originally placed by Fairstar Heavy Transport at Guangzhou Shipyard for a smaller Type 2 vessel named Fathom, which was subsequently inherited by Dockwise in its fractious takeover of the rival contractor earlier this year.
