ThePetroleum Safety Authority (PSA) found the shortcomings after carrying out arecent audit on land and onboard rig contractor Saipem’s semi-submersible Scarabeo 8 duringdrilling of a production well on the Eni-operated Goliat field in the BarentsSea.
Theverification exercise covered areas such as decision-making processes and riskassessment, well control procedures, division of responsibility andcommunication between the driller, operator and third-party contractors.
Inparticular, it focused on well planning and human behaviour, and interaction inthe event of a well control incident, including decision-making on when the BOPshould be activated.
