Greenpeace India unfurled the banner reading “I Kill Forests” as it seeks to halt Essar’s mining plans in the Mahan forest in Madhya Pradesh.
London-listed Essar filed the suit in Bombay High Court on Monday but has not confirmed the amount it is seeking in damages.
“Essar House has filed a suit against Greenpeace India and others for declaration and consequential reliefs of injunction and damages in respect of several ex-facie illegal acts which have both civil and criminal consequences,” Essar said in a statement.
