The EC has decided to adopt a new target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% over 1990 levels by 2030.
It has also agreed on a target of raising the proportion of the union’s energy that comes from renewable energy sources to at least 27%, in a target binding on the EU as a whole rather than individual member states.
