Well partner Stone Energy revealed in its first quarter results that the well had reached total depth without encountering any hydrocarbons.
The well was drilled in about 4245 feet of water using the Transocean drillship Deepwater Champion and was aimed at unlocking new resources at the subsea Mica field.
The field partners had said the reserve potential at Mica Deep was material but neither ExxonMobil nor Stones released specific pre-drill expectations.
